Fury Medal anticipates a boxing landscape in the future: Teofimo Lopez faces Barboza Jr.
WBO lightweight welterweight champion, Teofimo Lopez, is confident that he is going to do his part by defeating Arnold Barboza Jr. in their tournament battle on 2nd Fury Fatal card in May in 18 days, Live on Dazn PPV at Times Square in New York City.
Teofimo (21-1, 13 Kos) says he doesn’t care who wins the other two fights on a card May 2nd because he focuses on going through his difficult booth against his compulsory WBO Barboza Jr (32-0, 11 KOS).
Barboza Jr. is going to be a problem for Teo because he has looked great lately, beating Jack Catterall and Jose Ramirez in a backup fight to move his way to his compulsory position. He has been fighting at a higher level than Lopez and seems mentally stronger.
Fight on May 2nd
- Ryan Garcia vs Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero
- Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez
- Teofimo Lopez vs Arnold Barboza Jr.
Saudi plans
“Everyone has to do their job, and everyone has to win. The best of the best is going to fight. It’s like a tournament and we’ll see each other. The best fights the best; whoever the last guy stands by the beginning of next year,” Teofimo Lopez told Journal about him fighting against Ryan Garcia or Devin Haney.
Teofimo failed to mention that Ryan and Devin need to win their fighting spouse on May 2nd to meet the October second -reading for which the Saudis is designed. If one or both lose on May 2nd, their second -time match will be up in smoke for October. They can still fight later, but may not have the funding from the Saudis.
“I don’t care. As long as I’m over next year, that’s all that matters to me,” said Lopez when asked who he prefers to fight between Ryan and Haney in 2026. “They move up to 147. I’m still 140. So, they’ll at least get a little bit in the welterweight section.”
Haney and the king already have a start on Lopez because they have been rehydrating a great deal of pressure for their fight at 140. Ryan looked like a slender younger middle weight during his last battle against Haney on April 20th last year. It will be interesting to see how well it catches up when Teo comes in with a winner or loser of their second -time game in October. Both are difficult in their way.
“So, everyone is 147, be wary. Teofimo comes to conquer the 147 lbs.
Loser bracket
Lopez may fall apart long before he reached 147 in 2026 with his conflict on May 2 against Barboza Jr. He will still fight early next year even if he had been beaten, but he would be in the loser bracker against Garcia or Haney. Neither of those two would face Lopez with their careers basically on the line.
“We’re going to make boxing great again, and we’re going to start it in May 2nd. I think if this fight goes 12 or not, it will be one to watch. So, tuned in, Live on Dazn”Lopez said of his battle with Barboza Jr. next month on Times Square.
“If Crawford could do it and no one gives him S *** for doing it, then I can do it. I don’t want to hear it,” Teofimo said about whether he could go up to 154 for one battle. “I’m talking about one or two weight class differences. There is so much room to take each belt. There is little noise at 154. There is not much noise at 147 as much as it should be,” said Lopez.
